Instructions for work on the premises of Slippurinn

The purpose of these guidelines is to indicate Slippurinn's environmental and safety policies and practices. This policy is also reflected in the demands that Slippurinn places on those who come to the premises of Slippurinn. Parties are also advised to familiarise themselves with the contents of Slippurinn's safety manual. When referring to employees in the instructions, this refers to all employees who work on the premises of Slippurinn, employees of Slippurinn, contractors, subcontractors, buyers and others passing through.

Environmental and safety management at Slippurinn

Slippurinn is a company based on decades of experience in the field of maintenance, new building of vessels, and steelmaking of all kinds. Slippurinn has adopted a safety and environmental management system. With safety management, Slippurinn ensures a healthy and safe working environment for its employees and other related parties, such as subcontractors and service providers of Slippurinn. With environmental management, the company minimizes environmental impacts in operations and projects. This aligns with Slippurinn's policy of being at the forefront of its field and doing good.

Safety equipment and personal protective equipment

The safety equipment and personal protective equipment that are mandatory to be used in the work in question shall be used in accordance with laws, regulations, and regulations of the State Labour Inspectorate and the safety requirements of Slippurinn. Persons employed on the premises of Slippurinn ensure that all employees on its behalf use and are trained in the use of safety equipment and personal protective equipment and are responsible for ensuring that the equipment is legal, sound and within time limits for durability. PPE must be CE-marked and in accordance with applicable rules.

The following rules apply to employees on the premises of Slippurinn and are defined so that there is no doubt as to what kind of safety clothing they should wear and what personal protective equipment they are to wear.

Workers shall wear a safety helmet inside and outside unless specified in the affected area.
Workers who work exclusively outdoors wear visibility vests or other visibility clothing, helmets, and safety footwear.
Safety shoes with steel toes and a steel plate in the soles are required.
In offices, canteens and cafeterias, it is permitted to deviate from Slippurinn's policy on employees' personal protective equipment and safety clothing.

Other personal protective equipment is worn as appropriate from time to time and in accordance with the hazards of work performed. The following personal protective equipment is for different hazards: gloves of different types for general use in the trades of the workers concerned, safety glasses when there is a risk of eye ejection e.g. from machine saws, airwedges and grinders especially. In addition, face shields, falling protection belts with lifelines, hearing protection, respiratory protectors with dust and chemical filters, and protective suits must be worn. Reflective clothing is used when working in situations where it is important that the person is visible.

To succeed in working conditions, hygiene, safety and environmental issues, all workers must be aware and actively involved.

In addition, employees need to familiarize themselves with:

Slippurinn's safety manual and be aware of markings on the premises of Slippurinn specifying hazards and necessary safety equipment.
If an employee becomes aware of defects or deficiencies which could lead to a deterioration in safety or poor living or health conditions which he cannot remedy himself, he shall immediately notify the security guard, the security representative, the security manager of Slippurinn or the immediate superior.
Oil extraction of vessels on the premises of Slippurinn is prohibited except in consultation with the project manager or foreman of Slippurinn Akureyri ehf.

Entry into confined spaces is prohibited without written permission

Work in a confined space
Written permission is required for entry and work in confined spaces, confirming that the necessary preventive measures have been taken for entry according to procedure 9.5. The license is a checklist, ensuring the work team understands and is prepared to deal with the risks.

Zone traffic

General traffic regulations apply in the work area. Always drive carefully; the maximum speed limit is 25km/h.
All unauthorized traffic by private vehicles through the work area is prohibited.
In general, cars should be parked in parking lots. An exception to this is if employees need to transport tools or materials to the relevant work location.
All equipment and machinery in the work area must have received an annual inspection by the State Occupational Safety and Health Administration.
All machinery operators in the area must be properly qualified by the State Occupational Safety and Health Administration to operate the equipment.

Response and reporting of accidents and near-accidents

Call the emergency line on 112 in case of an emergency or accident involving persons. The event shall be reported to the safety manager of Slippurinn and, if appropriate, to the State Occupational Safety and Health Administration. Almost an accident must be reported to the safety manager of Slippurinn, who is responsible for processing the notification in Slippurinn's registration system.

Violation of these rules, unsafe practices as well as failure to use appropriate safety equipment is a disciplinary matter that will result in the following actions:

Verbal encouragement for improvement with the person concerned as well as the employee's representative/supervisor
Written encouragement for improvement to the employee's representative/supervisor
Final warning sent in writing to employee's representative/supervisor

Gross negligence in safety and environmental matters or repeated violations can lead to expulsion from Slippurinn's work area without further notice.

Responsibility

The company's preventive work aims to realise the objective of no accidents while minimizing the impact of operations on the internal and external environment. Management at all levels is responsible for implementing and supporting the company's safety, health and environmental policy systematically at all times. Management shall strengthen the general awareness of the safety of employees through education and determination. Management shall work closely with their employees on implementing and solving safety, health and environmental policy issues.

Environment

Slippurinn Akureyri places great emphasis on all employees being aware of the environmental impact of their work and endeavouring to reduce negative environmental impacts as far as possible. Workers should, therefore, always keep environmental concerns in mind.

Waste

The company's waste is sorted for recycling as far as possible and returned to an authorized receiver. The following are categories of waste relevant for recycling:
Organic kitchen waste, newspapers, magazines and office paper, smooth paperboard and corrugated board, plastic film, hard plastics and wood. Ferns, metals and metal film are also sorted out for recycling. Further information on classification can be obtained from Slippurinn employees.

Hazardous substances

Hazardous substances are substances bought in as toxic and dangerous substances. Hazardous wastes include batteries, accumulators, paints, impregnation, fertilisers, waste oils and chemical residues that are unusable and need to be disposed of and/or recycled.
All hazardous waste shall be separated from general waste and returned to an authorised consignee. If an employee is in doubt as to whether a substance is considered a hazardous substance or not, information should be sought from the Chemical Reception Ltd. or the Health Supervisory Authority.

Electricity consumption

One of Slippurinn's environmental goals is to reduce the use of electricity. Emphasis is placed on taking good care of the resource, and employees are encouraged to minimise unnecessary waste of this resource.

Response to an environmental accident/incident

In exception, the causes of pollution/damage should be stopped, and pollution in the environment should be prevented or further spread.
Call the emergency services on 1 1 2 if pollution or environmental damage is of such a magnitude that it cannot be rectified immediately on-site.
The incident should always be reported to the Safety Manager of Slippurinn.
